CBRG accounts
Introduction
All members of the Medical Sciences Division at the University of Oxford are
eligible for an account with the CBRG. Please ask your Departmental Administrator about the full cost for an account.
The revenue from the account charges is used to contribute to the running costs of the CBRG. Please
remember to notify us if you are moving departments, or leaving Oxford, as this will effect the
chargeability of your account. Accounts for part II students are free of charge. Please mark your status
clearly on the application form.
The account terms including costs can be found here.
The rule of one user per account will be strictly enforced. If you are found to be abusing this rule all
accounts belonging to your user group may be suspended. All users of the Computational Biology Group
computer facilities are required to comply with the University rules
on Computer use.
Acknowledgements in publications and presentations
Please note it is a condition of the service that any work done using the CBRG computer systems or with the
assistance of the CBRG team should be acknowledged in publications or presentations in the following way:
"I/We wish to acknowledge the Computational Biology Research Group, Medical Sciences Division, Oxford
for use of their services in this project."
If the contribution to the work is significant (for example, in depth analysis, tutorials or code development)
please include the team member(s) that aided the research as named author(s).
We would also appreciate any reference that is published to be emailed to
genmail so that we can build a list of publications that have used CBRG services. This will help to ensure
the CBRG will continue to be funded. If you have any questions about this please email genmail@molbiol.ox.ac.uk.
All the molecular biology software packages are provided to academic users on the understanding that
the original authors of the software are correctly cited in any publications, that the software is
not copied and that it is not used in any commercial applications. If your research involves a commercial
interest please contact the CBRG to clarify your position.
Using your molbiol account
To use your molbiol account you will need to connect to our server, "orac", using SSH to provide a secure connection. We
have provided some guides for you to establish this connection if you use a PC
or if you use a mac.
If you have connected successfully using SSH you will be prompted for your username and then your password - these are CaSe sensitive
and should be entered exactly as shown on your introductory documents, which you receive after your account is created. Once
you have logged on for the first time you should change your password. Do this by typing nispasswd on the command line.
molbiol mailing list
A curated molecular biology mailing list (molbiol-l) is maintained by the CBRG. Your new CBRG account
will automatically be subscribed to this mailing list and you will receive any postings as e-mail. Postings
can also be read through News as the group ox.molbiol
Send messages for the molbiol-l mailing list to molbiol-l@maillist.ox.ac.uk
Anyone is welcome to send bioinformatics/molecular biology related messages to this list e.g. announcements
concerning seminars, courses or conferences. All messages should be plain text only (no HTML formatting) with all information in the body of the
message.
Messages with attachments cannot be posted to the mailing list.
Subscribers may remove themselves from the list at any time by sending a message
to molbiol-l-unsubscribe@maillist.ox.ac.uk Non-account holders can
subscribe to the list by sending an email to molbiol-l-subscribe@maillist.ox.ac.uk (you
will be sent an email asking you to confirm the subscription).
