Bioinformatics FAQ

There are a large number of bioinformatics programs available to CBRG account holders via this web site. These examples (Frequently Asked Questions) are used to illustrate the use of these tools in answering typical queries posed by researchers.

The major web-based tools from the CBRG are listed, here.

How do I retrieve a sequence from the database?

Program name: seqret

(molbiol username / password required)

Notes: The EMBOSS program "secret" can get a sequence from the public database copies that are maintained by CBRG (eg EMBL, RefSeq, UniProt-SwissProt), or from your local machine. The sequence can be displayed on-screen in any sequence format (default is the simple FASTA format).
To save the sequence as a file on your local machine, right-click the "outfile" link (top of the results page) and save.

See also: To retrieve the full database entry (rather than just the sequence), use "Entret"
[run entret  /  entret manual]
